August 24th - Meeting of the Crazy Rabbits
Date: August 24, 2011
Time: 6:30pm to 9:30p
NOTE: Crazy Rabbit Beth has a birthday on August 16th. So we will celebrate her birth with good cheer. GAG gifts are encouraged but not required.
Location: Lorie's House, 2885 Endicott Ct., Clearwater, FL 33761
Cost:
- Let's do a themed pot luck this time. How about Mexican? Bring a food or beverage to share...choose from the main dish, appetizers, dessert, beverages. First to let me know gets dibs on the item. (Reminder: hostess will provide plates & glasses, forks & napkins, but not food or wine....makes it easy to be a hostess!)
- Bring laughter, a positive attitude and some cheer!
Project: Stepping Stones (see samples at the bottom of this post)
Lorie will provide mortar/concrete & latex gloves plus the sweetie pie hubbie to do the mixing and pouring for us. Thank you, Allen!
Supplies you need to bring:
- MOLD of choice: You can buy molds at Michaels or JoAnn's but why spend money when you can use an old cake pan (9x9) or small pizza box, aluminum pans, ice cream buckets, plastic storage boxes, plastic planter saucer, etc. Just make sure it's something you don't plan on keeping if it gets damaged in the process.
- EMBELLISHMENTS: When gathering items for embellishing your stepping stones, steer clear of wooden items because they don't stick into the concrete very well. Get creative with your embellishments! Try seashells, marbles, beach glass, mosaic tiles, buttons, small toys, and mementos of any sort. You will be able to make prints in the cement after it has set for between 30 minutes to an hour. Besides handprints and paw prints. Try making prints with other items such as dog biscuits, leaves, cookie cutters, etc. Go to the thrift store and pick out old, colorful ceramic plates. You can break them up to use to make mosaic stepping stones. The possibilities are endless....
- Saran Wrap & petroleum jelly
- Piece of old screen or hardware cloth - about the size of your mold. It will be used in the center of your stepping stone to make it stronger.
- A few rags
- Sturdy box to set your creation in to take home. Your stepping stone will have to set for 24 hours before removing from mold.
When you create stepping stones at home you can add dye to the mortar but we will NOT be doing that this evening as we're trying to keep a fun project a little simpler and not so messy.
